Aloe Vera, you can find it at most pharmacies. The best form is get an Aloe Vera Plant or a large leaf, sometimes sold my the leaf in supermarkets ie: Kroger. Split the leaf open and use the gel inside and rub it all over your sunburn. Do it as often and you need to.  There is also an Aloe vera sunburn gel moist pharmacies.  This is the best healing agent I've found.

Ditto. It's not hard to grow, on the contrary it's almost like a weed. Takes a flamethrower to keep it down.

I had a large, lovely one. I overwatered it. That's apparently an easier method than a flamethrower.

I didn't know they sell it by the leaf. Good to know, thanks.

They don't always have it in stock however.  Almost always keep a bottle of Aloe Vera in my refrigerator.  It is 99.8 pure  aloe Vera I purchased at WalMart pharmacy OTC, (no sugar, no calories.) Once had terrible heartburn, an old lady who lived next door gave me 1/4 cup of Aloe vera Juice, in 1/2 hour it was gone, I became a believer.  I suppose you could use that on a sunburn as well.  An Aloe Vera drink is sold at supermarkets however it has a lot of sugar in it but also has chunks of aloe plant.  In an emergency I have used that as well for an upset stomach.

This hurts at first but works everytime.
Warm bath get the tub as deep as it can and soak the burn for at least 45 min.  Will hurt at first but it will subdue quickly.  This will let you skin absorb moisture from the water.

Of course, best to just use a good sun block. This post was edited by my2cents at July 16, 2023 5:45 AM MDT

Cool showers and wipe-downs with 50/50 white vinegar/water.  Alo is good but I always chose the vinegar for my family.  My mother used vinegar too. This post was edited by Thriftymaid at July 16, 2023 2:45 PM MDT

Shower works as well....but painful. I like the tub better the pain goes away quickly.
    I have never used vinegar.

I always thought vinegar worked really well, too. Stinky, but effective.

Calamine lotion is a long tried and trusted one, but like anything else it is only an emollient, not a treatment, for the injury.

The best and most effective immediate and long-term approach is to avoid being burnt in the first place.

I can't remember using Calamine for sunburn, only bug bites. Vinegar works pretty well for those, too.

I agree, prevention is certainly the best cure!

Are you the person who’s suffering from it?

Then the Doctor Randy D Randall sure-fire remedy is to prescribe you his personal full body rubdown! Extremely gentle, extremely relaxing, extremely soothing!
Leave the front door unlocked, strip down to your all together, lie down comfortably, and I’ll let myself in and get right to work!
(Caveat: it’ll take at least a few dozen sessions, so clear your weekly calendar by blocking off three hours every other day for the foreseeable future.)

Er, um, house calls are a thing of the distant past. Please tell him that I said he should take two aspirins and log onto WebMD in the morning. Grrrrrrrr.
