Do you shop at Costco, if so, have you been lately?

I had a big sticker shock today, something I usually pay $22 for is now $26, a bag of lettuce I paid $3 for is now $6.99 and the list goes on.

No and no. I have never even had a Costco membership card.

I know inflation is a thing, but I have trouble getting worked over a $3 or $4 price increase. One can always choose not to buy that particular item.

It’s really a petty issue compared to things like violent crime and serious illness.

It's not so petty when you are on a fixed income.

Are you on a fixed income? Even Social Security is indexed for inflation.

And it still is petty compared to real problems like illness and death.

Social Security increases do not keep up with the cost of inflation.

Anyone on SS income is on a fixed income.....it does not fluctuate weekly or monthly based on hours worked etc.

And if that $4 makes it were you cannot afford the copay on your meds or cannot afford adequate food.  It is hardly a petty issue.

Rental increases for seniors have skyrocketed, as a result there are more homeless seniors now than ever before.  Watched a video this morning about trailer parks which used to be a good alternative for seniors, now, not so much.  Trailer park owners are adding monthly costs for everything such as water and land use.  Their double wide trailers are not worth much, many in need of unaffordable repairs so they are not able to sell them. As a result some seniors are living in their cars while their belongings are in storage.

Poverty is right up there with crime and illness in my opinion.

Nobody shopping at Costco is in poverty. People in poverty are homeless and/or can’t afford to eat.

Your dialogue seems a bit passive aggressive, I no longer care to partake.

And your seems rather self-pitying, especially for a Republican who ostensibly believes in not feeling sorry for oneself and not relying on government entitlement programs.

I can't comment on the income of Costco shoppers, but I do know that plenty of people are struggling to make ends meet and the rising food costs make it very difficult. Just because you are comfortably well-off, does not mean this is not a problem for millions of people. A person does not have to be homeless or starving to be poor.

Of course it is. I was only commenting on those who can afford to travel to and spend money at Costco.

You have to travel to and spend money at any store you are going to shop at.

Exactly, and I wouldn’t expect impoverished folks to have the disposable income to shop in bulk at a store like that.

Those in less affluent neighborhoods in my area tend to shop in smaller quantities within walking distance of their homes.

Shopping at BJs or Costco here calls for having access to a car or the means to use Uber or call a car service.

You can have a car and still struggle to have money for food etc. And places like Costco are supposed to have better prices.

So you are applying your area to the rest of the country? My closest Costco is in the middle of town, many people could walk there.

Nobody????  That is a mighty broad brush there.

I personally know a couple who live in another person's camper who shop at Costco.

So are you the guide post for who is and who is not impoverished? And just know  by where they shop.

This morning I learned through AARP, Social Security wants to cut Social Security payments by 20%, I hope it doesn't happen.
