The modern, peaceful equal to that are the Amish. They are anti-machinery but don't try to force that belief on anyone else. The Amish are somewhat protected against inflation, not dependent on most outside forces but themselves. Modern folks could learn a lot about survival from them however it's a lot of work, more than most would agree too. The Amish have a freedom we don't experience but at the same time they give up many freedoms for a peaceful life.
