I teared up when I first read headline. Seriously, fellow humans, are sports that important?



56 people killed in a stampede after a referee's controversial call:

And, somewhat related, I'm rather happy The Big Ten penalized both The Ohio State University and University of Michigan for the after-game brawl:

And, admittedly as stupid as I was at the time, I still agree with my natural instinct:

At the age of 13, at my first official track meet, I was immediately so far ahead of every other sprinter in the 100-yard dash, I stopped and turned, and waited for the other runners to catch up with me so we could all run together. It was more fun to me that way.

    Makes you wonder what some people are thinking.  We are losing our humanity.  Every time I hear things like this, I'm happy I'm not raising children today, that I don't have grandchildren and that I'm on the 17th hole.  I don't want to be around to see the complete collapse of America.

    EDIT:  It would appear that it isn't only Americans who have lost their humanity,  I just saw this on Yahoo news.  

    "At least 56 people were killed, including some children, in a stampede at a soccer match in southern Guinea after fans of the visiting team took exception to a series of calls by the referee."

    Yes, the happening in Guinea you shared is the topic of the article I posted, too. It, and the OSU/Michigan brawl (and seemingly many other similar happenings at sports events over the years), inspired my question.

    Also, in my state, on one of the university radio stations, is an ad encouraging parents and adults to "behave" (for lack of better term at moment) at junior high and high school sports events. The ad is done well. Yes, we'd all do well to behave in my opinion. :)

    Do know I see many young children and teens behaving very well in all sorts of settings. :)
