Is it possible to rehabilitate the songs made famous by performers who turned out to be very bad people?

Not to justify it, but Jerry Lee Lewis married his child bride in a state where it was legal at the time. She was also not a first cousin, although there are plenty of places where first cousins can legally marry. I have observed a lot of statements on many subjects here, which say that if it's legal there is no problem with it.

No, it was not legal.  But only because Lewis was still married at the time.  
But marrying your first cousin's kid does not sound any better.  Actually, worse to me. Like a pervert Uncle.
I don't care if it was legal. They changed the law the following year probably because of him.

She wasn't a child physically - Wyman wasn't her first paramour. Sexually precocious, it happens. He probably wasn't even aware of exactly how young she was when they first got it on, like most of the band he spent the 70s and early 80s blitzed off his head.
A paedophile is someone sexually attracted to children - prior to puberty. Warrants castration with a rusty knife and no anaesthetic. Forget the woodchipper - don't kill them, maim them and make them live like that. A hebephile is someone sexually attracted to pubescent adolescents. Same deal.
An ephebophile is someone attracted to WOMEN who are sexually mature but still under the legal age of consent and thats a grey area - I've known fifteen-year-olds who can pass for 25 or more. My daughter was buying alcohol at sixteen without ID and she's baby faced like me - her DD bust was enough to convince most retailers that she couldn't be less than 18 (which is legal here).
Wyman was unquestionably a predator but 16 is the legal age in the UK and Mandy looked a lot older than that. Going line for line with Bill (and others) would have been one of the reasons - hard drugs age you.

I was able to by alcohol as a young teen as well.  Not because I looked older but many clerks do not want to miss a sale.  In fact, I was 22 when I was carded for the first time. (Clerk was sure I was of age)

As I said, Wyman may have been unaware of Smith's true age - they were both blitzed to the t**s most of the time. Cocaine does that. Wyman wasn't her first lover and she later admitted to having chased him. She wasn't a child mentally either - a London street kid with a drug habit, streetwise beyond her years.
In South Australia 18 is the legal age - I protected my daughter until then (she was attracting male attention but too young to handle it, she did have a boyfriend but there was only two years age difference) but after that she was her own mistress and I'm aware that she had multiple love affairs, some with older men. Her current partner is younger than she is (she's 35, he's 34). Said two years older boyfriend had been abusing her, I didn't know that until well after they broke up. I didn't go after him because her brother beat me to it, he wound up with serious injuries and is blind in one eye now.

He was a pedo.  A nearly 50 yr old with a teen is a pedo.  There are no excuses.  The 14 yr old did not force or trick the 50yr old pervert.  There is no defense.

50 with 16 is absolutely predatory but legal in the UK and Mandy was older than that in everything but her chronological age. No blame attached to her but it's almost certain she was using him to support her habit, she'd likely have been prostituting herself otherwise and when it comes to teen hookers, "her name is legion". The pimps and johns should have the business end of an electric chair wired directly to their genitalia but what should happen to them isn't the question.

He was a pedo. Period.   I don't know why you keep bringing up legal at 16yrs.  (Should not be.  Romeo and Juleit laws are normally reasonable but not this type of BS)  She was NOT 16yrs.  She was 14 yr old CHILD.  And he was a pedo.  
Just because there are other famous pedos does not excuse or justify it.    Just confirms the "conspiracy theory" that many of the rich and famous are a bunch of pedos.  This why we do not have a list of Epstein's clients or Diddy's.  And who knows how many other pedo/pervert rings are out there that have not come to light yet. 

And now, media/Hollywood and other groomers are trying to normalize it and justify it.  It is not normal, it is not a culture thing or anything else and there is no justification of sexual abuse of a child.
