Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» PET is beginning the GRAND BACKTRACK! He will KEEP some of the AHCA. He won't GUT ALL OF IT! Uh-oh! Was he lying all along?
Well, Rosie, apparently D. Trump knew something a lot of us didn't know about the campaign and getting himself elected. I feel inclined to see if he also knows something about being president that we don't know. We don't have much choice, do we?
That, m'dear, is an extremely astute observation CMI. You could be right and I had not thought of that! Thank you for your thoughtful reply and Happy Sunday! :)
Perhaps we should check the record of your beloved Barack Obama, who vowed that in his first term he would A) close the detention facility at the Guantanamo Bay military base in Cuba; B) end US combat operations in the Middle East and bring the servicewomen and servicemen back home; C) wave his magic immigration wand and make millions of people happy worldwide through his reforms.
Let's review: A--not even close to being done B--not only escalated but also elongated C--when faced with the reality that presidents don't have magic wands, he donned a crown and committed an illegal act that gave lukewarm lip service to a few thousand immigrants, but in the other hand also earned the dubious title of Deporter-in-Chief based on the high number of immigrants who were shown the door during his presidency
Oh, please don't forget that he repeated the same sleazy promises to get re-elected for a second term, which worked for him, so after EIGHT years he has failed to complete his word on what he would do in four. Just like most politicians, he promised whatever people wanted to hear in order to get from them what he wanted, and when they gave it to him, he did what was most expedient for himself, and did not fulfill his word.
The Donald's con man campaign was based upon one a massive network of hate-reinforcing reality-free missives ("Immigrants are rapists", "Mexico will pay for the wall", "We should kill Muslim families because they MIGHT be related to terrorists", etc.)
Meanwhile, I have yet to hear a "Repeal Obamacare!" advocate who has answered in any coherent way what to replace it with. Even the mainstream media has started to notice the GOP's ACTUAL plan is "Repeal Obamacare now! Replace it with something....eventually...maybe!"
This is going to be the interesting part of a Trump presidency (maybe in the Chinese sense of the word?...;-D...). The Donald made a lot of grandiose obviously impractical promises. How are those promises going to be translated into real policy, and will the resulting real policies be enough to satisfy the unrealistic desires of those who voted for Trump as a "F**k You, Establishment!" gesture.
What does "the Chinese sense of the word" mean? It's not bigoted or racist, is it? Because that would be hypocritical of you to do anything like that . . . --
The second amendment strong gun folks EXPECT him to deliver. Build a wall. Imprison Hillary Clinton. Repeal everything Obama has done in 8 years. Deport 11 million immigrants. Reverse Roe vs Wade. Get rid of all rules/regs governing business. Bring back jobs. Block Muslims from entering the country. Eliminate all taxes on the wealthy/the business owners. Destroy NATO. Be the bastion beacon and home for the ALT RIGHT WHITE racists. Make America Great (WHITE) again! Stack SCOTUS with ALT WHITE RIGHTS/ALT RIGHT WHITES! Restrict voting to just white people. I'm sure I"ve forgotten a lotta stuff but he MUST DO ALL THOSE THINGS OR ELSE! I await with great anticipation the OR ELSE part. Picking sleazeballs like Gingrich and Giuliani for his cabinet is not a good start but it is indicative of the boneheadedness of PET. Condolences to one and all. Let the games begin. Mahalo for your thoughtful reply OS and Happy Sunday! :) Buckle up.
That thought occurred to me too.. if everything he said during the campaign was just to whip susceptible people up into a frenzy so they would vote for him.... then yes they would be lies if he didn't keep those promises.. Now that would be GOOD for those of us who truly fear for America but it would mean he broke his own manifesto that got him elected. It would also mean he was someone not to be trusted.. hmm who'd have thought that was on the cards. It would bring very mixed feelings for me.. relief that America might not be damaged and further ruined and sadness and well irritation that people were, in masses very silly to have believed him and fallen for it.
MY hope is that Trump cannot actually do most, if any of the things he threatened..... but as above...
I accept Obama didn't do all he said he would either. I remember when he was voted in.. I thought.. hmm i think people are expecting way too much of him and one man just cannot do all these things... Don't get me wrong I think he was on the right track.. but... people were misguided to think he was some kind of messiah who could walk on water..
In some part yes Randy.. but I recall very well the time when Obama was voted in.. the feeling that he would somehow save America make it nice, wholesome, cool...that he would fix all the problems... I knew it was too much to expect in such a short time and from one man...but the point is the feeling and trust in him was palpable.. so real so strong.. albeit unrealistic...
Perhaps this is a feature of American politics.. and I mean no insult here just saying perhaps your system and the way it works there is different... perhaps the people are different..perhaps more easily swayed.. perhaps a lot are too trusting, too easily believe things that aren't commonsense.. so maybe all politicians there do do the same.. and maybe people, or the masses are more gullible... I dont know..
I also knew he wasn't the Great Messiah that some thought he was. Granted, I am not now nor have I ever been an Obamite, but at the same time, many people mistakenly assume that any one electee or any one administration or any particular party can miraculously change bad to good. They're often disappointed when it doesn't materialize. ~
Thank you for an extremely thoughtful analysis Addb and Happy Sunday to thee. I appreciate it. I guess we're gonna find out eventually what it is that was elected to the highest office in America...perhaps the world. SIGH. :
Ok.. i am willing to accept that rather nice and generous explanation... however, we cannot deny that that *isn't* what he said.. and that's my problem with what he said.. pretty much everything he said..
I suspect Donald lies in his sleep Rosie. That said, a lot of what he said during the election trail is simply either impossible or unworkable. Not lies so much as fantasy. 'Lies' implies a desire to deceive and if people are deceived by this sort of codswallop then they deserve to be disappointed when their fantasy goes pop.
But lies to get elected are nothing new. What is new is that Trump suddenly finds himself semi-beholden to a group of people who are, should he backtrack too much, going to be dissatisfied with his GOP-ness. I don't mean the supporters, because they don't really count. I mean of course the Republican party machine.
Trump may well be a short term president. I don't think he's controllable in the way the Republican Party will want, and if he doesn't behave they may well seek to oust him. If he avoids or survives the likely opprobrium that is going to come his way from all sides, I'll be very surprised indeed.
Thank you for your very thoughtful reply MrWitch and Happy Sunday. Boy oh boy I LOVE that word m'dear. CODSWALLOP! It has everything one could want in a word. SIGH. I guess the best/worst is yet to come. PET doesn't know what the he** he's doing. He is a wing man.He wings/ad libs and moves on. It worked for him up to this point. I wonder how well it will work for him going forward. He promised his worshippers a lot and he had better deliver OR ELSE! I can hardly wait to see what the OR ELSE is comprised of. Watch this space! :)
