I admit that for last week-or-so I've been having a personally rough time. Please excuse my overly emotional answer. And I've not 'kept up' or whatever on this case. I knew about the declared-mistrial. But just the little I just looked up, I'm shaking my head.
That juror has EVERY right to vote however that juror believed. And the rest of the jury/media/defense attorney/ whoever should all just shut up about it and NOT blame/attack or whatever.
That particular juror was simply doing a juror's job.
I stand up for that juror. "That juror could be me." I'll go start a GoFund Me for the juror.
[ Previous three sentences - - yes, I see hypocrisy in those criticizing this juror. I wonder if they're on the same court of those who stand for the defendant. ]
Thanks for a Pick. :) And I've been thinking more about it, though not researching any more, as of now. I'm still sort of shaking my head -- and soul. I regret whatever circumstances that led to defendant's decisions and actions, and I am no justice expert but:
In general, I think the personal identifications of individual jurors in trials (especially murder trials) should remain anonymous to the general public and news sources. I'd think individual jurors would consider their decisions more sincerely and confidently if they knew for sure that, afterwards, no one would be trouncing them down for interviews.
I don't believe jurors should be allowed to speak at all, at any time, about any of the trial procedure details, either. Let alone publicly complain about fellow jurors.
Quite a while ago, I admit I found people appealing for money for the defendant in this murder case was going a bit far. As do I find appealing for money for this juror the same. Yet, this juror did not murder anyone. This juror, then, has more of a right to a money fund, I'd think.
I'm in a rare place, lately -- emotionally, spiritually, and physically - - but I think I'd agree with myself regardless of my 'state' on what I've shared for your question.
I agree... Jurors should not be allowed to make media interviews about a trial and certainly not about other Jurors. Because as you said it can influence their decision in the case. Which what I think is the defense attorney goal in case of a 2nd trial.
I think this juror may need security with all the nuts out there today.
I agree, too -- I admit I want to give that juror privacy. The juror does not need to 'defend' his trial vote to me. I only read briefly recently, but I believe governor DeSantis offered 'asylum' (?! i think that was the word used?) to the juror. for that to be needed for the juror's protection -- yes, that is crazy to me. Sad, too. But glad to hear there are those who want to help him, too.
