Here's the scenario - the Democrats make Ted Lieu the Speaker (a great choice, the man is a wildcat who fights dirty when necessary).
Trump and Vance are BOTH impeached and enough disgruntled R Senators cross the aisle to convict (hypothetical - while Trump is guilty six ways from Sunday, there's no certainty that any of that will stick to JD. Being appallingly incompetent isn't a "high crime or misdemeanor").
In the instance of both POTUS and VP being removed, the Speaker becomes President - but Lieu is ineligible as he was born outside of the US. So next in line is the President of the Senate pro tempore - who is NOT the majority leader, but the longest serving member of the majority party. That Senator is Patty Murray (D-WA), a person whose name has never been mentioned in relation to a Presidential tilt. There's precedent - Gerald Ford was never elected, having succeeded to the Vice Presidency when Agnew resigned in scandal, then the big chair when Nixon did.
It's a very long shot, requiring a number of possible but unlikely occurences - but could it happen?
