Donald Trump said in his "60 Minutes" interview that he'd be happy to see the Electoral College abolished.

Think he'll be able to do anything about it?

No.  I believe it would take 38 states to approve and I seriously doubt that would happen.

Ironic; since everyone on 60 Minutes would love to see Trump abolished.

Cute, but not a real substantive response.

I don't know how to be substantive about this outmoded institution that let a monster in the Oval.

But it wouldn't have happened without a lot of folks voting for him.

And that is the TRUE horror of the matter.

    Indeed, you're right about that.

And? Everybody knows he didn't win the popular vote.

So, it doesn't matter whether a lot of people voted for him.  More people voted for her.  That's the horror.  He was right - the election WAS rigged.

But the popular vote doesn't determine the outcome, so all your whining is just pissing into the wind. The same thing happened to Al Gore in 2000, and somehow we moved on.

Excuse me, but I'm not whining.  I stated a fact.  For all you know, I voted for Trump.  I'll leave the pissing in the wind for you since I'm sure you'll find it much easier. This post was edited by SpunkySenior at November 14, 2016 7:44 PM MST

Funny, it seemed a lot like whining because you didn't want to accept the outcome. I'm not ashamed to say I voted for Clinton, but I've decided to accept what happened and move on. There's no point in nursing hurt feelings and taking to the streets and crying about it, or continuing to raise the popular vote thing. I'm not ashamed to say I voted for Clinton either, which I did.  She didn't make the cut and we're going to live with Trump for the next four years.  I agree that there's no point in taking to the streets.  I commented on the popular vote in response to Sharonna's comment about the Electoral College allowing Trump the win.  End of story.

Congress has tried and failed seven times.  We were just lucky to experience this twice in one lifetime.

  • I'm not an American... But I thought you guys... You know, the people, elected the senators to do your bidding? This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at November 13, 2016 9:13 PM MST

  • No, not exactly.   Senators, along with all representatives in the government, are elected to express the general voice and interest of the area they represent.   They are still bound by the Constitution and cannot legally override it no matter what the people want.  Our bidding is limited by the Constitution otherwise we would have much more serious problems.
