Discussion»Questions»Communication» I think Baron Trump may be autistic. This looks to be very accurate. Check it out...I never noticed, did you? (NOT making fun of him)
Old, watch the video. No one is targeting anyone. I find it amazing that I never noticed this. I don't think anyone is being targeted. I think it opens doors for understanding what this little boy may be enduring. That is all. No one is going to denigrate Trump because he has a child that has this obstacle to overcome.
If anything, I kind of found something about Daddy Trump that I can like finally. I am sick of hating everything about him and his love for this son is obvious. It was a risky thing for me to post because of my hatred of Trump, people are thinking I am attacking this child. NOT AT ALL. Unfortunately, he is front and center on that stage and I am sure he would rather be anywhere else, but he is with a loving family that is there to protect him. He is supposedly very bright, but putting him in the limelight like this may not be helpful. Not sure about that one.
I know his dad loves and is proud of him. That speaks volumes to me.
@Shar -- It's all good. I attribute no ill motives to you.
I, personally, would not have chosen to ask about Barron on this forum, because all things Trump are so controversial and polarizing. But that's a taste-based decision, not one upon which I would attach great moral weight.
Let's unite in wishing the best for Barron and his future.
Yeah, right. This reminds me of the things that some people said about the 12-year-old Chelsea Clinton when her father ascended to the presidency in 1993. But that's just an observation of similarities; I'm not accusing you of making fun of Baron Trump.
@Randy D -- While I cannot speak with authority about Sharonna's motives (for one can never truly know the mind of another), may I propose a possible alternate motivation?
This post is the first I've ever heard Barron Trump's name, to my recollection. Perhaps Sharonna was surprised to hear about him, surprised to hear there is evidence he is autistic, and surprised that the media did not publicize this more.
Perhaps she is genuinely curious that she missed this aspect of the media coverage of Trump and his family, and wonders if it was because she wasn't paying attention, or it really was an underreported story.
Meanwhile, I don't think expressing the sentiment, "Wow, I didn't know Trump's son might have autism. How did I miss that?" is directly analagous with "Wow, the Clinton's daughter is a gawky ugly-looking teenager" (which is what I remember from those days). While they are both comments about a Presidential candidate's children, they are VERY different in semantic content.
Thank you for your perspective, OldSchool. You are absolutely right that none of us know Sharonna's underlying intent in posting this, if one even exists at all. If based alone on her oft-stated and clearly-stated hatred for Donald Trump, coupled with her constant jibes and jabs at him, it does not bode well that she's making a simple observation of the family member(s). I do, however defer to the distinct possibility that she meant no ill will to the young lad.
Had Hillary Clinton won the election, as Sharonna had wished for, I sincerely doubt that Sharonna would have posted anything remotely similar to this about anyone of the Clinton clan.
@Randy D -- I think we agree on one point. If I had stumbled across this video of Barron Trump, it would NOT have occurred to me to post a question about it here on Answermug. I personally would not have had any reason to do so, and I even if the motive I inferred for Sharonna is accurate, I disagree with her decision to post the question. Let's leave Barron alone....;-D...

I would find it difficult to believe that Sharonna is the kind of person that would make fun of a person that she thinks may have a disability. She may be a little quick on the trigger sometimes, but I think she's one of the good ones. As are you.
There are times that many of us, myself included, express things that on retrospect we later regret. There are also instances in which we receive feedback from others that triggers said regret. While Sharonna may not have realized how her words would be perceived when she posted them, especially if she did not intend the child any harm, it's entirely possible that she might rethink the impact of them. Until or unless she chimes in, ¿quién sabe?
I watched about two minutes. He's a ten-year-old boy. That poor kid has been drug around from place to place, His whole schedule is messed up. His dad is Donald Trump and I'm sure even his supporters agree he lacks social aptitude. That's his role model. Heck, is his mom really a good role model either? Her idea of being social is stealing speeches and taking her clothes off. What are we expecting from the kid?
If I had to sit through my dad's speeches, and my dad was Trump, I'd be fidgety and disinterested, too. He should be out climbing trees or building lego towers or something, not listening to the same speeches over and over again from one of the most hated men in America. One of the clips shows Donald putting his arms on Baron's shoulders and Baron pulling away. Umm... maybe he just doesn't like his dad??? Ya'll have seen Trump on TV. You think he doesn't yell like that at home? Living with him must be hell for a kid.
You know, we didn't see this much of the Obama girls on the trail and, while they were more social, their parents are really social people too. Even still, we saw them looking bored a lot as well.
Gee, Just Asking, how dare you present a fair rebuttal that shows another side of the story! Don't you know that mud-raking is going on here? (Sarcasm.)
I just had a thought. From what I remember my 10-year-old self being, were I in Barron Trump's position (being immersed in a political campaign), I'd be having a blast.
Of course, I was a very precocious bookish....um, nope, no better way to say it...NERDY child.
Perhaps Master Barron would be happier out climbing trees (if so, good for him!).
@Glis -- I apologize. It was not intended as a slight against young Barron Trump. I was invoking the outmoded practice of calling the progeny of prominent families "Master" or "Mistress" as a little joke.
JA has a good point though. He might just be uncomfortable and over stimulated as hell with all the chaos around him. SKOS says at 10 he would have been having a blast. I for example would have been freaking out and very uncomfortable being in that circus. I'm not autistic but I never liked being the center of attention, liked having all eyes on me, large crowds of strangers, or being on stage or public speaking. The idea that his behavior shows he may be on the autistic spectrum is valid and compelling based on hos actions, but at the same time it's such an extreme situation and chaotic world we are seeing him in that we aren't really basing it on a true reflection of regular life. The whole situation could be overwhelming and uncomfortable for lots of personality types besides autism. Almost akin to saying someone is violent psycho based on how they behaved when forced into caged life or death combat with others.
Really though it's none of our business if he is or isn't.
Several friends who are on the spectrum or have children who are. Two cousins who are on the spectrum to different degrees.
Just saying, none of us are really qualified to make the diagnosis ( being autistic oneself isn't even really a qualification to say) and seeing video clips of someone in an outrageous situation isn't enough evidence to say with any kind of real certainty.
Either way the kid seems very uncomfortable in the situation and with the attention and I feel sympathetic for him having to deal with it. Like I said I'm not, but at that age ( even this age to an extent) I may have acted somewhat autistic out of overwhelming confusion and discomfort and it would have been a horrible feeling the same. That's my first person experience I can comment on with certainty based on myself. It could be autism, or it could be an introvert who is in utter shock.
