Have you encountered people who expect you to be of a particular political party, espouse particular political viewpoints and/or back

particular politicians based on any one or more of the following: your ethnicity, race, religion, creed, nationality, gender or sexual orientation?

I'm black, and many people are incredulous, some to the point of questioning my intelligence on the matter, that I am not now nor have I ever been a Democrat.  Have you experienced said ideology in your own life?

I have had my views questioned for many reasons.  During the 2008 primary and throughout this election I have been strongly criticized for not backing a candidate based upon the fact that she is a woman.  A person's gender does not qualify them for the presidency, however.

VERY well stated, Bozette! A candidate's track record, competency and character should determine votes!

You heard of living on the wrong side of the tracks?  Well this is the far-right, white side of the tracks.  There are a few black people and they are treated quite nicely by everyone, but basically these weirdos are still living in the 50's.  LOL   They are White Christian right-wing Republicans all the way.  So when you announce these days, Randy, that you are Republican, you are clumping yourself into that group unless you specify what type of Republican you ARE.

    Are you a moderate Republian?

Or are you Tea Bag for Brain Republican?   Like did you reminisce over Eisenhower and Reagan?  Or do you think Bush and Trump rule the day?  How Republican are you, Randy?

  • I understand what you're saying. I don't think many people expect a white, well spoken, middle-class woman to be a Communist at heart, but I am. I'm not being disparaging, please don't think that. It's an interesting point. Do we suppose that our views, or the way we address each other is not based upon assumption, or some pre-arranged map in our heads? I wonder how many extreme rightists think they are only talking to white people, or that black or mixed raced people don't have the consertative views.
Good question, R. I respect your opinions hugely. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at November 28, 2016 5:41 AM MST

Thank you, mon amie.  I have mutual respect for what you write on these "pages", whether serious matters or in fun.  I'm sure you may have been wrongly judged or prejudged by others at many points throughout your life.  I know that I certainly have.  Truth be told, in retrospect after it's been pointed out to me, I've also done it myself to others, and I used those experiences as a springboard into learning better practices.  If there's anything I've learned in life about human beings, it's that not everything that appears to be obvious is obvious.

    No one has ever forced
    their political views upon me
nor tried to persuade me into
    supporting a political platform
    or ideology.

Thank you for your response, but being forced, attempts at force and attempts to persuade have nothing to do with the gist of my question.

People expect me to be a Republican because I live in a hardcore conservative southern town. I actually swing a little to the left but I never discuss politics with people around here so they just assume, but it doesn't bother me. I'd rather they not know, I'm a little scared of them..

  • Yes, most people assume that because I'm a millennial and biracial that I must be a liberal/Democrat and they are correct. Though I am more moderate than they probably assume I am.

Not me but my brother. We are Jews who were born and raised in NYC, and he became a rabbi. People have a political stereotype of New York Jews, including rabbis, but he also is a decorated officer, a colonel and the senior Jewish chaplain in the US Army, and he is a staunch Republican who loved Bush but did not support or vote for Trump. He holds strong beliefs in American exceptionalism, second amendment rights, prioritizing national defense, and US support of Israel.

  • Well Randy
I'm going to have to be one of those. And perhaps I'm talking out of ignorance.
But although I CAN understand a black man being Conservative, I don't understand how he can be a Republican. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at November 28, 2016 6:36 PM MST
