I was reading an essay about IQ distribution in various societies. While IQ averages are pretty similar in similar socities (e.g. average IQ in the USA and Canada is effectively equal), the DISTRIBUTION varies.
It turns out the average IQ of the just the low end of the distribution (the bottom 5% of population) for the USA is significantly lower than the average IQ of the bottom 5% of the Canadian population (or other rich industrial democracies).
And what sorts of political/social philosophies do people at that end of the distribution tend to have? Yep, the sort of anti-intellectual beliefs common among Trump supporters...;-D..

No, if you took a large enough sample of narcissistic a-holes with $20 million inherited nest eggs to start their business empires, there would be a distribution of those who did poorly, those who did OK, and some who did exceptionally well. Tournament survival does not necessarily indicate genius, anymore than flipping a coin and getting "heads" 10 times in a row indicates one is a genius.
Getting heads 10 times in a row is certainly statistically significant, but it may indicate irregularity in the coin or the tossing rather than any attribute of the tosser (pun intended).
@Malizz - In a large enough sample size, a run of 10 heads is not statistically significant. It's an expected outcome (even if the coin and the tosser are both honest).
I once played a game involving 6-sided dice where a roll of a "6" caused something very bad to happen. I rolled a "6" seven times in a row. The odds of that are 1: 280,000. It happens.
A game that involves a six sided die? That narrows it down to almost every game on the plant that involves a die other than dungeons and dragons. Even that uses 6 sided die for certain modifiers.
In the game, photon torpedoes take 2 turns to fire (load one turn, fire the next turn) while other weapons can be fired immediately. There is a provision in the game to "crash load" a photon torpedo so it can be fired immediately, but you have to roll a die because it has a 1 in 6 chance of detonating in the launch tube, causing damage to the firing ship. I did that 7 times in a row. Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom.
