I have been disgusted with politics for decades. Each election I keep saying, "They have to pick someone better to run next time, right?" Only to be more amazed at the poor choice of candidates. I am truly afraid for the next election.
No. But on the topic of being disgusted with politics, it is disgusting the amount of money raised and wasted. We should have all the politicians raise all their money and then cancel all elections for one year, and put all that money to much better use.
No more than usual. Politics is a dirty game. Trump's win says more about the people who voted for him and about the man himself. You gotta give him credit for speed though: he's started stuffing up before Melania has even had a chance to measure the White House for new curtains.
The Crusades - do you mean defending lands overwhelmingly Christian from invading hordes of Muslims? What's wrong with that? The right of self-defense is sacrosanct.
The Spanish Inquisition - read up on this and you will find that most of the negatives come out of Elizabethean England, a deadly enemy of Spain. It was no more and no less than any sovereign country did in those days. England herself was particularly nasty when it came to other than the established religion. Elizabeth I is credited with over 1,000 judicial executions. Her predecessor, Mary I, with a little over 200. Yet Elizabeth has come down in history as the great queen, while Catholic Mary is known as Bloody Mary. History is written by the victors.
I am heartened that at least one person, you, seem to be open to learn. How about starting with the Encyclopedia Britannica. A quote - " The Crusades, military expeditions, beginning in the late 11th century, that were organized by western European Christians in response to centuries of Muslim wars of expansion. Their objectives were to check the spread of Islam, to retake control of the Holy Land in the eastern Mediterranean, to conquer pagan areas, and to recapture formerly Christian territories; " (Emphasis mine).
There's a start for you. For further information, should you so desire, the world of Google awaits you. Thank you for showing interest.
No, your point didn't elude me in the slightest. That should be obvious from my reply. The Holocaust was as vile as could be. The other two were events of their times - don't treat them anachronistically, which is what you (and others here) are doing.
Your response addressed the Crusades and the Inquisition - it did not address the Holocaust. Whether the other two were events of their times or not, they were certainly more vile than Trump's election WHICH WAS MY POINT. For you to continue to give me history lessons proves that my point DID elude you, so there's no point in further conversation. Have a nice day.
I objected to your false analogy comparing Trump's election to the cited historical events. Apples and pomegranates. I agree that further conversation is unnecessary.
