If retirement age keeps going up, then why does nobody want to employ "old" people?

(Old is over 40 now since Millenials are in charge).

I have never been without a job.  I never think like you do.   I am employable.  I always will be.

Comes down to money. Don't hire them and save on benefit expenses. Retire them closer to time of death and save on benefit expenses.

That isn't necessarily true.  I'm 71 years old and have been employed full-time by the same firm for the past 25 years. This post was edited by SpunkySenior at December 10, 2016 4:26 PM MST

I do think it's often much harder,  for an "old" person to get hired for a decent paying job once they've lost one.

  • Old age is over 40? Good grief, Boring, when you get to our age anybody under 60 is a kid.

I started running into employment problems after 50 but only because technology had made me redundant. Who needs a Morse operator in the 21st century?
