Good question. I don't know, but tv is pretty good at it. Although I wouldn't say deplete. More like modify.

It takes minds to produce television. Blame it on the minds and those who want that mindless drivel to creep into their already demented psyches.
Television is merely a tool. It can serve both positive and negative purposes.
If the only thing broadcast on television was C-SPAN Book TV (and maybe C-SPAN itself), television would be a tool of enlightenment and education. But, of course, C-SPAN Book TV has to compete with Honey Boo Boo for our attention.
