How many members have we lost today to the political questions overswaming the question board?

Category: Rant

Just witnessed one disappearing seconds ago. Those arguing them will likely say "so what, yada yada..." Guess what? It's not so what! This is the environment we represent to new members:

1. feel welcome
2. get tired by all these political question
3. finally, the snap - "lose your head once, and we will go for your throat!"

I cannot say this too much. We need a more healthy environment. We will only get this if we have a more varied question board. Members who have tried to enlighten the content, and who came here with fresh blood have been forced off again with what we have to offer to them. It's a losing game... We cannot compete with the persistence of the political posters. There need to be a change, either in the interface where we can filter the question board (most, recent, views, replies etc.) or by a changed understanding of all members and an understanding of needs to move the questions into the debate room to enable the chances of getting the question board running with more varied questions. It is not about censoring, but about choice of forum.

End of rant. To the one who just deleted, you will be missed. We did not agree about what you wrote but you did contribute with lots of positive things during your short stay. I will better hold here before I say anything else.

Bonus question: how many of those from Blurtit do we have left now?

You got that one right m2c. Don't run away from me when we next time discuss politics, we are bodies now. I am officially been named a right-winger. Which irony that is. I would have been insulted if it wasn't for the tragic-comic irony such remarks make. At least one laugh today, although sarcastic.

I got a laugh out that one too.  I was called a liberal on here once....that was a first and a good laugh then too.

Oh jeez. Where do those people come from? Are they too busy with their own to observe on others? And one of them seems to have become obsessed with me following me around and making either remarks to me, or even greater talking about me to others responding my question. Smh.

@DTD -- Perhaps I should have cited the large volume of "tilde" questions to illustrate my point.

We all have things we'd prefer were different/better about the 'Mug. I have a lonnng-standing dispute about exchanges of the following type:

RWAF: Anyone who holds the view contrary to mine is an an Evil Commie Socialist Immoral Anti-American Baby Killer!

    Me: You're an idiot.

Per AM management, the RAWF statement insulting a whole group of people is acceptable, while my reply is a personal attack and contrary to the rules of the site.

I have spent HOURS explaining to the management how allowing the RWAF blather while suppressing my responses constitutes ENDORSEMENT of the RWAF view (complete with evidence from the world of cognitive liguistics) to no avail.

    Yet I'm still here.

I think we should all take a step back, thank our lucky stars that we have time/energy to waste on such First World Problems, and move on with our lives. This post was edited by OldSchoolTheSKOSlives at December 14, 2016 8:47 AM MST

More "How's the weather?"  and "What did you last eat today?"  that draws everyone here.

Do you ever read a question and its description Sharonna, or is it only supposed to happen inside your questions. Go ahead and make fun of it. One thing is sure, it's not constructive in any way. Quite funny you claim to be liberal yet have so little room for those who think differently than yourself. Have a nice day up on your own little sky.

You are right, it isn't allowed in personal attacks. I am sure they won't make a difference if you will attack someone against TOS. It's rather simple.

Well, it might find a solution by itself. The amazing openness I find here to have an open discussion instead of slandering remarks is remarkably. The methods used, even more remarkably. Even the trolls back from EP will be envying the skills of some people here. I am amazed.

I won't miss anyone that would leave for such an insipid reason.

Don't let the Mug door slam your butt on the way out.   People who pull that crap just want attention and need to be front and center with their demands all the time.

If this is what their boring egos need to make a point, then they will slowly take over with more and more cranky stupid useless demands.  No questions make people leave.  People leave because they are looking for a reason to complain about something.

I hated the Bible Thumping questions all over the site.  I would no more leave over that petty trivia than I would leave because JA PB'd me for something.  That is part and parcel of a site.

I have seen dozens of people come and go on here and hundreds of people leave Answer Bag because they were disgruntled.  Everyone has some beef and when petty beefs like this become the talk of the site, that means the people who are complaining are bored.  Again write your own questions.

Nah, it wasn't one of your friends leaving after they were violating TOS and you made a bunch of rants here and everywhere about it. Long live South Park. Go Sharonna go! You are an amazing woman with high standards and high integrity, at all times. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at December 14, 2016 9:36 AM MST

  • Maybe we should just change the logo to this:

@Karen -- It is not the fault of TEH STOOPID EBIL LIBRUHLZ on this site that the bulk of the Usual Suspects left.

There have been times when I have felt like the lone voice of dissent amidst a Right-Wing/Authoritarian Mutual Admiration/Obama-bashing Society.

I remember back on Answerbag one particular Usual Suspect asked AT LEAST 50 questions of the exact same form:

"It was cold today in [insert location here]. Al Gore? Global warming?"

We somehow survived that. We'll survive the current brouhaha as well.

I'd hate, and here I mean hate if this turns into a donkey and an elephant. You know we don't agree politically, but that doesn't mean I cannot value your presence as a member. Your title a book by changing one word with Trump was a hilarious laugh. A site should be big enough for everyone. In fact it seems to me it's more about ego than anything. Just suggesting to move the political questions to the Debate Room has given me a hater. They haven't even cared to find out what my position was. They should know from previous that I am liberal but to be honest, I don't think they care at all because this isn't their opinion and they want status quo (my perception, and I cannot know as I haven't talked with them in private, no such wish had been present). Guess some of the political posters here are satisfied as long as they can post their questions. It's no longer important for them to get into a debate and discuss the matter (quiet ironically as this is a discussion board). They don't care if there are other members here, or for that matter what their desires are. Ironically once more as saving the world should include all of us, no?

  • I'm neither Dem or Rep, I vote person not party. It's just the majority of questions are aimed at attacking Republicans and if you disagree, the fight is on.

  • I'm not laying fault on anyone. It's just that the majority of the questions are aimed at attacking or blaming Republicans. This site is very Democratic in it's population. NEITHER side seems to have the ability to keep things civil when someone disagrees with them.
We can survive it, but at what cost? Losing new members in less than a month? Only the most stubborn of us will stay and not be ran off. A site can't really exist and thrive if new blood isn't introduced into it once in a while. And they weren't the usual suspects.....they were brand spanking shiny and new.
