If Trump does NOT divest before Jan 20, the Democrats WILL charge him with violating the Constitution.. That is just so.

Hello:

Now, I dunno HOW a case like that would proceed.  What I DO know, is that he could avoid it all, if he wanted..  I don't think he wants to.  As a businessman myself, I know that divestiture won't be EASY for Trump, but it's DOABLE.

So, I'm NOT asking whether the case has merit or not. Certainly, his supporters will say it doesn't.  But, Trump WILL be tied up in court over it for the duration of his presidency, and I think it will hobble him.

I'm ASKING if you think this is a fight Trump should engage in.

    I personally don't think so.

    I'd like to see Trump do what has been considered pro forma for Presidents before him and put his financial assets into some form of at least nominally blind trust where the possiblity of self-dealing in minimized.

    But Trump has basically said "F**k that s**t" and it does NOT appear the rest of the GOP (or a substantial plurality of America voters) care.

    What is the point?

    No law requires it but he is doing it.
    Clinton made millions while a Senator and Sec of State.
    Obama has made millions while Prez.

    You are correct.  The law does NOT require him to divest..  The Constitution, however, DOES say he may not accept payment from a foreign government. 

    To wit:  If the Saudi's are staying IN his hotel on January 20, 2017, he WILL be receiving payment from a foreign government..  And, he WILL be charged with a violation of the Constitution..  He may even be impeached.

    That, my friend, IS the point..

    He has already started divesting his interest. The point is moot.
    Would Hillary give up the money from the Arabs she has collected while Sec of State or Senator?
    Seems she has not read that part of the Constitution.

    Moot???  Nahhh...  He THINKS giving his interests to his kids IS divestiture.   It isn't..  It's not even close.  There IS a way to do it, but the family CANNOT be involved..  You get that, right?

    And, I'd have been FINE if they charged Hillary with the same thing..  But, they didn't..  That WON'T be a good defense for Trump anyway..  SHE got away with it, so I should too.. Nahhh... That ain't gonna work.
