Will anyone be happier on January 20th than President Obama?

He gets to put the west wing in his rearview mirror, leave the driving to the next guy, and live the rest of his life as a former POTUS - a pretty sweet gig. Remember how happy and relaxed President Bush was during his trip home to Texas in 2009? The cigar and ear-to-ear grin spoke volumes.

That has to be a NO.  It's still a mystery why Trump would make this change in his life. A lot of people think he never wanted to win.   I have a feeling Melania never will move her son to D.C.   I'm hoping for the best here. This post was edited by Thriftymaid at December 18, 2016 3:19 PM MST

  • You are entitled to your opinions and of course there will always be things on this forum that we disagree with or dislike..My post did NOT insult you... and merely spoke what is obvious.. the man has an ego the size of several empire state buildings, he has demonstrated worrying signs of extreme narcissism and childishness/pettiness.. AND Melania is a very pretty young woman and Trump is an unpleasant oafish man... it is known, and proven that generally speaking such unions, where a very attractive young woman joins an unattractive much older man,  ARE because of money. Now you can dislike that all you like, you are entitled to do so... but it is more than likely the truth.. so perhaps we shouldn't bury our heads in the sand?  I appreciate that some older men might be particularly sensitive to my statement and psychology/sexology has explained that pretty well -  I will skip the explanation here as there's no genteel way to say it.
As to your supposed offence at my words.. you are entitled, as i sa, y, but please remember they were not about you, I didn't swear or use profanities, and it probably is the truth..AND it's not like you are above making offensive comments too.. mine were at least not personally directed at you.

Thriftymaid, if that's a no, who do you believe will be happier than President Obama?

You asked if anyone would be happier than Obama on Jan. 20.  I said no.  No one will be happier than Obama.  He will be the happiest on January 20 because he's out of there.   I was agreeing with you.

  • I suspect he will be far from happy, the man has a conscience so that's seriously going to impede on his enjoyment, knowing that he leaves America in the hands of a madman with an ego as fragile as eggshells :(

In fact the whole world should, and probably does mourn..

However, I wish Obama well, he at least tried - unfortunately he faced impossible odds with just under half of the voting public being idiots -... I am sure the burden must have been onerous  but hey he tried as I say.

I Hope he does what most ex-PMs and Pres's do.. make loadsa money speaking and running new businesses.

But why should that affect his conscience? He had no control over the election's outcome. I suspect he'll sleep quite well at night, content that he did his best. There's the old saying that one shouldn't worry about things beyond one's control.

  • Agreed but my point was. that a man with a conscience would be the kind who would worry.. there's another saying.. always pass on a better world than we inherited.. so I imagine he would worry and fear for the country he tried so hard to make a better place..

Although I agree that staying and fighting this madness is the "right" thing to do, I think that anyone with the funds to exit are the truly lucky ones!

I agree with DaydreamBeliever; Obama has a conscience and is sincerely concerned about what's going to happen to "the least of us".

But thanks to the 22nd amendment, he couldn't stay even if he wanted to, which I would bet he doesn't.

I was not referring to Obama remaining president (or is it precedent? LOL!), I was talking about those who have the means to leave this country.

I'm sure that the Obamas have the funds to relocate, but I don't imagine they will.

The Obamas are moving into a big fancy house in Kalorama, just two miles from the White House, so Sasha can finish high school at Sidwell Friends. He'll be the first president since Woodrow Wilson in 1921 to remain in DC after leaving office, and he's said that he plans to sleep for two weeks when he does.

Not at all surprising to me. They seem to be devoted parents who genuinely care about their children.

I don't think so. He'll be very relieved and happy to be handing over the responsibilities. And as everyone is mostly focusing on Trump now, Obama has pretty much been on cruise control since election day. He's already feeling it! lol

Your comment shows your complete ignorance of what every president does and how hard he and his staff work.

PS - On first reading, I assumed you meant HIS election day in 2008. But you probably meant Trump's election day this year. Sorry for the misjudgment and possible overstatement. This post was edited by Stu Spelling Bee at December 18, 2016 11:09 PM MST
