If I leave a whole, intact pumpkin in my garden, will it break down and grow new vines on its own in time for next Halloween?

    It might.  It is possible.  It is also possible that it might not.  But the seeds are viable and there are so many, at least a few should sprout.

    In your garden?  That would depend on whether or not the rotted, festering, decomposing cadavers fertilize properly. 

    (Don't even think it: I've prepared several "Open immediately in case of my sudden and/or suspicious death" letters and distributed them all over the place. One step ahead of you.)
