Which is one song that gives you a happy feeling the second it starts playing?

By happy I don't mean ironic or sarcastic happy, but smiling heart happy.

This song always gives me that feeling.

One of my 5,753+ favourites. Nah, seriously I'm not sure how many songs I love and have as favourites. But this one, and Depeche Mode are in the top of that list.

  • I've always found that song dark and sorta sarcastic. Does it really make you happy??

I have a lot of music that makes me happy. None that I can name you as specific. Lot of it will happy-go-lucky around kinda music, and it might vary on days which will make me feel happy.

This song however, makes me feel good, which is way more important to me than just being happy in a foolish way because of some number I've been listening to by coincidence. I know Depeche Mode have/are seen as very dark music. I grew up with them. I love their music. It means very much to me. I've been to several of their concerts. About this particular song I think you read it wrongly, when you look at it as being dark and sorta sarcastic. Let me quote something written about the song:

Many Martin Gore disciples know the story of how “Personal Jesus,” came to light, it has become legend to a legion of Depeche Mode fans. Gore had been reading a book written by Sandra Harmon about Priscilla Presley called Elvis & Me. In the book Priscilla says this about her marriage to Elvis, “Over the years he became my father, husband and very nearly God.” Gore explained Depeche Mode’s biggest hit like this, “It’s a song about being a Jesus for somebody else, someone to give you hope and care. It’s about how Elvis was her man and her mentor and how often that happens in love relationships – how everybody’s heart is like a god in some way. We play these god-like parts for people but no one is perfect, and that’s not a very balanced view of someone, is it?”

  • I see, SH.
I understand the difference between the good feeling and the happy go lucky feeling.  The excerpt you added touched me deeply for many reasons. If for anything, thanks for that.
I will take a  listen from that point of view.
    Thanks S, I mean it.

You're welcome. It is one of my favourites, right in the top. But then again, I'm a huge "fan" of the band and their music, for decades.

I like this song even better than their much bigger hit "Walkin' on Sunshine,"  which I also liked.

    You're welcome, Lago!
    Thanks for taking a listen!
Yeah, Katrina and the Waves had a much bigger hit in my area with "Walkin' on Sunshine, " which I also liked. But after that hit, I heard "Sun Street" a couple of times - -  I immediately smiled, was happy and have loved the song ever since. I like it even better than "Walkin' on Sunshine."
