And apart from you, is it all black and white?

I am the one that forms what is black and what is white according to my perception.   According to my highly nuanced perception.

I see. Sounds risky to be trapped as narrow-minded at times. Personally, I don't believe in any black and white with exceptions of colours.

  • It doesn't matter what you or I think.  The badge and the gavel say it's black and white.

It might not matter in a bigger picture. However, it does in my opinion matter something in interpersonal interactions.

To my experience in life those are the colours we meet the least. Greyish in all sorts of nuances will be upper hand. :-)

  • Exactly. But in the hope / belief that we can achieve clarity the grey must be unsaturated don't you think? It's not impossible. It's a matter of determination.

No, I don't think so. We are a variety of people and to hold us all we need the greyish nuances. None of us is above the other to claim we know it all. Daydreamer added an angle in which i believe too, there will be some universal truths we cannot ignore. :-)

  • The older i get the more i see that nothing is just black and white.... everything has qualifiers, and reasons why black may not be right or wrong and white ditto... Real life is messy and complicated and there is never just one way...

There are some universal truths... child abuse is wrong, animal abuse is wrong, abuse of women is wrong... but beyond that as I say, it's not just black and white.

Thank you, and I do agree with you, also about the universal truths. :-)

Abuse in any kind is a universal wrong in my eyes. Unless consensual between two or more adults, but it might nor be a true abuse then. Hmm. That discussion is for another room here at aM. The troubles around abuse is to define when something turns into abuse. Some places of earth a raised hand against a child isn't seen as abuse but means of raising them, Other parts you'd go to jail for the same. Personally, I see any violence, physically or psychologically as an abusive behavior. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at December 22, 2016 3:50 AM MST

  • Ah sapphire ... U may have fallen into the trap ... Would you not cause physical abuse of a person to find where he hid the bomb that would kill 10,000?
Would not the child see the pain of an inoculation as abuse?
