What are the misconceptions you have around homosexuality?

  • The problem with misconceptions is that, if I have one, I am unlikely to know it.
The moment I become aware that I've got perceptions that have nothing to do with reality, I want to know the truth.

I'm probably thirty or forty years behind the times on the latest in house lingo.

This question might be a tad sarcastic an der the result of a homophobe showing up inside a question here and spread hatred, and misconceptions such as including child abuse in connection with homosexuality. All in the name of God and the bible. Sorry, it gave me a bad taste on this Christmas night. :-/

  • Sorry you've met a homophobe here.
Unfortunately some people are still very ignorant about the issues.
I forget the exact reference but I recently saw something about a gay man and a Catholic priest having a four hour conversation in which they each actively listened to each others beliefs, thoughts, feelings and exchanged facts on research and doctrine. At the end, both declared that they had learned a great deal about the other's position. The gay man ceased to be anti-Christian and the priest ceased being anti-gay and became a defender.
Could discuss the issues more openly in the Adult or Free-for-All sections.

I am awareness we can discuss things more openly inside Free-for-all and adultMug, and we have a few other groups too. Thing is, it's not where I meet these hateful comments. It's inside the main room. I love the idea of a open and listening conversation but that is not easy when you are not met with a question but an outburst. Thank you hartfire for sharing. It is appreciated. :-)

  • I think all homosexuals are pedophiles.

Just kidding. I doubt that I have any true misconceptions about it, but as an asexual, I don't have any good first-hand experience with sexuality in general. But it also makes me somewhat neutral toward any sexuality, be it homo- or not.

Thank you. My question wasn't meant as a us vs. them. I've known a few asexual on another's Q&A site. I am aware that you meet misconceptions around your sexuality too. As for your opener, this was what I met inside a thread here on aM and what caused my question. Take it you read my reply for hartfire. Thank you for taking part. :-)

Hmm. Don't know about others but some of us do. Doesn't mean we are at it 24/7.

  • It's a line that goes from A to B ... Somewhere on that line we all sit ... And it's a slippery line... We tend to move round a bit

Yus. Unfortunately a few are more than just slipping. Meeting someone who makes an equal between homosexuality and child molesters is no longer slipping in my world. Ugh.

  • Now that is a totally different kettle of fish! I don't think child molesting is slipping in anyone's world

I resent your casual assumption that the principles on which I base my life are all "misconceptions". I resent your assumption that I cling to these so called misconceptions even though I know they are not true. You really really need to clean up your act.
