My Maiden name I had always been told was Swedish (my Grandfather was considered full blooded Swedish) But it sounds and looks Oriental. But after doing a family tree I found where the spelling had changed generations back. When researching the old spelling it said it was Dutch. Current spelling is supposed to be a shortened version of a first name.
