That's a very good point about each finding their own expression. When I was much younger I never went out without the full works because it suited my face and that's how I wanted to express myself. Now I settle for eyeliner and mascara, that's it. I want to be seen for what I am, a woman in her mid-40s, kissed by the passage of time )
Same here! Never had any issues until I hit this age. It's like I am sensitive to all sorts of things on my skin. Must be one of the thousand things that suck about getting older. Then again, I would look silly with a lot of eyeliner these days.
I'm a little late on arrival to this make-up party. I just happened to be breezing by some of the questions and this was one category I had yet to answer on. I thought I'd join the clan and put my thoughts in.
As a general rule, I'm with the majority of you. I think my mom and dad were big influences on my sister and me. My dad was never big on women wearing make-up at all. My mom was an ICU nurse so her job didn't require her to wear any and be seen in the public eye. She wore lip gloss on a regular basis and mascara when we went out to dinner and holidays. My older sister didn't wear any make up at all during her high school years and still only wears mascara and lipstick for work. Maybe a little bit of eyeliner if she is feeling racy. Being the little rebellion, I went a slightly different route, not by much though. 1st, we weren't allowed to wear any until we were 16. I slipped by the rule a little bit because I did some modeling at 15 through 18. I wore some at shoots. Then, I went through what my dad refers to as my "black year." There was no such thing as goth back then and if there was, I didn't know anything about it. I did however choose to wear black eyeliner that was so thick I could have passed for a receiver on a football team! No, it wasn't that bad; but, my dad would tell you differently. I grew out of that and now I wear it so it looks like I'm not wearing any. It's not as easy as it looks. Like today for example, I have to work at 11 am and as some of you may know, I've been up all night goofing around on AM. :) So, it will take a little more than usual in about an hour. I 've been told by my husband and even when I was growing up, most boys and definitely most men don't like a women with a lot of makeup. Don, my husband, always says, he likes the fact he wakes up to the same looking women he went to bed with. He never was one for coyote uglys. Winks and smiles ;)
