Is there a little magic in beauty and cosmetics?

In the Middle Ages there was a branch of sorcery known as "glamour". A magician using that could give something a completely different appearance. Merlin did it for Uther Pendragon when he wanted to seduce the Lady Ygraine; the evil gnome did it in "Lay of the Last Minstrel" when he appeared as the son of a noble house.

Are our present beauticians also working magic? What happens when the make-up comes off?

  • You didn't have to write a word: that REALLY tells the story, doesn't it?

Unfortunately I spent far too long on Monday doing that eye-cover thing for my ophthalmologist and it didn't help a bit. I'm still ugly. :(
