What is the foulest odor?

  • One time I was biking through my neighborhood and got stuck behind a garbage truck. I could see the milky "garbage water" dripping down the back of it. It was the most horrible smell I've ever smelled.

  • ditto dog wee.. dogs stink too - it's just that they are usually allowed out for walks so they do their business where we don't have to smell it.. Mind you people who don't clear up after their dogs, they are the pitz because it not only is one of the foulest smells ever, dog-sh*t but it poses a health danger to kids.  SO I was going to say dog sh*t but thought I would try to be a bit different and more all encompassing.. then i read your comment and it reminded me that dog sh*t really is one of the worse smells ever and dog pee isnt exactly nice....

Talking of cat litter.. I had a dog wee patch down the bottom of my garden when I had a dog.. I mean better than posing health hazard to others.. it was a deep pit filled with gravel.. now and then i had to clean it out.. boy did that stink!!! Beyond foul..

  • That's actually a pretty good idea. Cat's waste carries even more potential risk though.  Both are nasty, but I gots'ta support the team. ;o

You ever smell a sheep or llama farm? Pig farms are pretty awful too.

  • I've smelled pig farms... not llama although there is a llama farm relatively near me.. My information had led me to believe that actually dog feces is worse than cat..  we know that cats can carry toxoplasmosis which is harmful to pregnant women..however, a caveat to that is that IF you have cats then you are likely to have been previously infected with that and so are immune.. therefore it''s not usually harmful even to pregant women and you can get exactly the same from undercooked or raw meat..

    DOgs however have...

I think both are not great but if i had to choose i'd guess dog poop is worse

A rotting corpse.  I went to a funeral where the man was not cremated.  He had been dead for several weeks before being found.  I thought that funeral homes could do something about the smell.  They can't.  I walked up to his closed casket and literally jumped backwards after placing my hand on the lid to say a prayer.  It bothered me for a long time and the smell is something I will never forget.  Why he wasn't cremated is beyond me, but I wasn't about to ask.

I think that may have been the case.  I felt so bad for his family.  I knew if I could smell it, I'm sure they could too.  It was a very traumatic death and he had two young children.

Chicken bones in a trash can are very foul!  I don't know why they smell more than any rotten meat product, but I always have to put those suckers right out to the trash when done.

My husband worked in a bait shop in his college years and used to count out those darn worms.  I bet he would agree with you.

Butanoic acid. One sniff and your stomach will turn inside-out. It was a candidate for use as a stench agent in war. Harmless but effective.

It is found in milk chocolate produced by the Hershey process, or added to imitate the flavor of Hershey's chocolate. Butyric acid is present in, and is the main distinctive smell of, human vomit.
