I don't understand rollovers. The folks who refuse to comply, then rollover quietly hoping no one will notice. Why the lie? Why pretend?

Why not be a pushover immediately and save time?  Why pretend to have a spine, a moral code, integrity? It just makes folks look like liars when they suck up to the person they stood up to. What was it all for? What did it accomplish? Why do it?
