I just posted a picture of icecream shoes.  I was going to direct him there.  I know I make no sense.

I have almost zero interest in status symbols.

I do like some material goods better than others (e.g. Porsche cars are neat, those made by Hindustan Motors are less so), but I don't like Porsches because they are expensive and/or exclusive, I like them because they are well-engineered cars. It would make me very happy if Porsche could afford to sell their cars for $10,000 and millions of people bought them.

But status signalling is fairly fundamental to the human condition (because, until quite recently in human history, survival and mating chances were STRONGLY tied into social status), so evidence suggests I'm in the minority in that regard.

You have an iPhone.     You have become too big for your britches, mister.

Next you will be driving a Prius.  (status symbols?  I HATE THAT CRAP LIKE POISON)

An iPhone is not so much a status symbol as it is a religious experience....;-D...

I think the Prius is an excellent well-engineered car. I don't need one currently, but if I were in a living situation where I needed to drive significant distances, I'd love to have a Prius.

Several years ago, an AB member claimed to have made a great deal of money in the natural gas exploration industry, and purchased fancy watches (Rolex, Breitling, and such) to celebrate his successes. He thought I should be very impressed with his success and his choice of time pieces. It was almost comical how his Conspicuous Consumption was utterly wasted on me....;-D...

The Prius comment was just an intro into the South Park joke.

That is all.   They are making fun of SMUG aholes who think like your AB member.  Except instead of showing off their wealth, they are showing off how IN THE KNOW they are.  It was  funny.

I am not talking about you at ALL of course.  I am kidding you about the iPhone, I'm sure you KNOW.  I know how austere your life is and you do just fine without all the boring useless trappings that mean zilch.  I am with you.  (just don't take my skin care products)

In life everything is relative.  Your answer is perfect, Jane.  I suppose for the homeless it might be the biggest box, or one that is waterproof.

I think a double-wide is much more cushy a life style than being homeless, Thrifty.  Some people choose to live out their lives in this simple style and have all the comforts and much less worry than homeowners with tons more bills.

Make sure it has a good deep-fryer.

I said everything is relative.  I made no comparison of a double-wide to homeless.  Compare  mobile homes to homes in a mobile home park.  Compare shelters used by the homeless to other shelters used by the homeless.  Relative.  Status symbols are also relative.  If you live in a trailer park you don't need to have 6500 sq. ft. to impress.  If you are a Hollywood celebrity a double wide will not be touted a status symbol.  Relative.
