  • "Suspicious" --  having or showing a cautious distrust of someone or something.

This trait becomes more obvious as the degree of wildness heightens.
Domesticated animals and humans don't show or use this trait as much as a feral animal or human does.

That's a good analogy ALF, sometimes when I see domesticated animals I'm filled with pity, its as if they have forgotten how to use their traits, they are so trained by their owners that they forget their own qualities, pets become too dependent and obedient.

Suspiciousness is a developed alert triggered by external given influencers. Animals do also have alerts built into their brains. We do also at times call it instincts. Hmm.

Indeed animals rely on their instincts.....do they have a sixth sense I wonder?

Sixth sense is also relying on instincts. Imho. Maybe just a tad more sophisticated, but it's our sensors being alerted by some external incident that causes our unconscious consciousness to recognize something we have met, or experienced before. Our sensors are however developed differently, and some people will ignore those alerts, others will be over alert. Hmm.

Some animals are very cautious and suspicious of new surroundings, other animals, etc.

    Interesting point raised by SapphicHeart.

We have the same animal instincts as any other developed creature, but can over-ride our instincts to a large, and variable, extent. I'd agree animals have their equivalent to suspicion but I think it's more just simple wariness to avoid being harmed either "personally" or in a herd manner.

We can be suspicious on a more intellectual plane, when we are not being wary of some potential physical harm, such as when suspecting the motives or guilt of somebody with whom we have no personal connection.

Yes! Absolutely! Turn your head on an animal and it'll f**k you up. The same with a human if you aren't on your toes. This post was edited by Zack at February 13, 2017 3:42 PM MST
