Discussion»Questions»Music» Sometimes we find out songs have a very different meaning than we all perceived. Will you please name a few you're aware of?
Yes, I had heard the same.. we have a nursery rhyme that goes Oranges and Lemons go the bells of St Clemens... I can't remember what it was but apparently it was a scathing attack on some situation or other and as you rightly say most of the nursery rhymes and a fair few novels are actually thinly veiled attacks.. I think we Brits are perhaps more prone to doing that than most as we are all oh soooo polite and soooo afraid of appearing impolite that we often disguise what we mean and make it seem nice and genteel. ANimal farm is very political, and apparently my least fav book Lord of the Rings is too.
Good Morning DaydreambelieverTrupDisbeliever ~ This may be why I like Brits! I'm not a big fan of Animal Farm either. I had to write a book report on that book in high school. Lord of the Rings is a little out there for me too. Happy Sunday! :)
Though I don't hear it nor see it, WAY more than one person has said that One Republic's "Apologize" is about committing suicide. (Song lyrics referencing a "rope" and "ten feet off the ground" and "take a shot for you" - - those lyrics within the context of the rest of the song do not signify, at least to me, suicide.)
Here is a nice video (though I've seen a better version with many of the same images, this is still nice; this is not the original one I saw because I remember watching the video over and over when I was infatuated with the song, and still am, and when it first came out, the song helped me through a very rough time.) This is the Timbaland remix version of the song. (I like both it and the original version of the song.)
