When was the last time that someone of "questionable intellect" was elected head of state of a major country?

Someone of clearly much lower than average mental penetration or general perspicacity.
Someone who might make a quick decision because it sounded good - without thinking of the greater effects of that decision.

  • Welllllllllll we all laughed like drains over Bushes many, many gaffs.. We nearly, or almost nearly, but I don't think we would have, had a real object of derision, Boris Johnson... now he's funny and all but no way would he have been acceptable as a PM/Leader, in fact he's a little like Trump - a blithering idiot who's always shooting his mouth off without thinking. The difference is that Boris is, thankfully, relatively harmless

It's a curious thing. BoJo does say things that "he/we later regret(s)" But actually he has (so far anyway) only spoken "common sense". (We all hope that his decision-making is a little more considered).

  • We hope so..and he is amusing enough in his own way.. but he's like Trump, he pisses people off.. he blurts things out without thinking.. and it's usually offensive.. and he's supposed to be a diplomat . so while we all have a soft spot for Boris, in his position he could cause us harm.

We had a Minister of foreign affairs like that some years ago, He got elected by being a charming TV speaker, and just could not resist trying to be funny. It got to the point that in addition to him we also had to send a written letter (explaining Denmarks position) whenever he went to explain Denmarks position abroad.

I think it was Bush. The son. Not so much the dad. As far as "Western Leadership" there is none. The quacks we have in government are pathetic.
