I try
Yes.
I always used every single hour................and I got seven weeks vacation plus five personal days (the same as vacations days) the last few years I worked. I knew there was a whole world out there to explore and visit and when I was able to retire so young, I was thrilled. I never ever regretted leaving my wonderful job.
My husband and I had a ton of vacation time over the years. We took a lot of it .. but stockpiled a lot too. When we retired, we got paid for all of those unused days. It was great!
A point of clarification . . .
"Companies" don't "give" you vacation time, or anything else. That time off is part of your compensation package, just like your weekly paycheck. It's YOURS that you've earned. It's not something that's an act if kindness from the employer.
The reason I mention that is that we in the US have come to view it as a kindness from our employers, not as something that has become our earned compensation.
No. Taking off actually causes me more problems before and after the days off. So it just isn't worth it.
Sometimes the days were difficult to schedule because of job requirements. I generally forfeited 5 or more days per year. In addition, my job mostly required working at least part of almost every company holiday and I never used the comp time I was entitled to. Taking a day off and then trying to catch up on a backlog of work wasn't always worth it. I worked in a global company and it was interesting to see how different the attitudes were in other countries toward taking time off.
Nope, I donated 40 hours to someone this year, took a week off, worked several half days and I'm almost maxed out time-wise again. I can bank up to 256 hours at a time and get a full 8 hours every 2 weeks. Granted, it's sick and vacation time... but I just can't use that much time.
Companies decide how much paid and unpaid time off they give employees. Unless you're in a union who has negotiated that for you .. it's up to the company to decide this.
:/Sorry
That's the way to do it if you can.
Nice!
They do give it to you. They have the option to not give vacation time at all. I was just reading about a company that allows unlimited vacation time as well.
Yes, I'm sure the total package offered makes a difference when you have a choice between jobs, but employers can change their policies at any point.
A lot of people feel that way.
I was just reading about some here in the US that don't track vacation. People can take as much as they need. I would agree, though, most employers don't make it easy for people to take time off, let alone encourage it.
You can give away your time off?
