Why don't they air-condition prisons? Isn't that inhumane?

I happen to know that prisons don't have air-conditioning for prisoners. The heat here in Texas gets to 120 F. some summers. That is really hot! I wonder how many prisoners die with that kind of heat.

Stu, I would say Fork was correct. "Prisons are air-conditioned" makes sense. "Prisons are air conditioners" does not, but you seem to think it does. How about an explanation, Stu?

Stu, how unoriginal of you. You took the lazy way out by simply repeating my words. Void of any original thoughts of your own I see. Do yourself a favor and try to avoid wasting valuable resources by attempting the impossible, as thinking isn't one of your stronger suits.

    Hello again, C:

Well, of course, as I'm using it, air conditioning is just a metaphor for better treatment..  But, if you agree with the scenario I wrote above, AC WOULD change all that..

Lemme repeat it here so there's no mistake..

    -------

We ALL know, that if you prod a tiger in his cage with a sharp stick, you'd better not EVER let him out...  But, we prod our prisoners with sharp sticks all the time, and when their time is up, we say have a nice day, and then INFLICT them upon society..

Sorry, but "every jail I've ever been to not only has air-condition", "Air-conditions do go out at times," and "It isn't uncommon for many air-conditions..." obviously are not correct. You apparently only read the comment he posted AFTER I responded to his first one.

You are right. My brother, who died a year ago today, had a wretched life...spending much of his time after prison as a homeless wanderer and in and out of jail most of his adult life.

I am sorry if I offended you. Shalom.

  • Here's where your logic is wrong my friend. The punishment and deterrence of incarceration lies on the taking away your freedom. That's it!
When they say twenty years, it's twenty years of paying back to society with your freedom being taken. And presumably protecting society in the process.

Going to prison to endure life threatening conditions and inhuman conditions is not part of that "rehabilitation" which effectively punishes people twice or three times over. The judge doesn't sentence people to ten years of incarceration, and rape or heat or violence avoidance.

It interesting how you don't see the irony in your own words. When you condemn the backwardness of foreign jails, but consider them just punishment.

  • Well that's the thing right there. Exactly. You just couldn't care less. All is said. Hopefully for you. Youll never have to.

  • That is again, a faulty argument. That's like saying " you know, come to my house, Ill only beat you up twice a week, as opposed to those over there. They'll beat you up everyday!" Come on man. You're a marine, you have dealt with prisoners, and the AMERICAN way to be better. You should know better.
