  • Floors and Restrooms are a deal breaker, even if the food is good.

  • Yep... it's a good indication of general attitude to things ... Hong Kong  toilets are a great example of what not to do!

  • Once you get into the city and the average restaurants they tend to go down hill quickly... not all of course... but as a general statement they are often un useable

  • Most definitely! I try to stay out of any public restroom....just have an aversion to them, I find them disgusting, clean or not!

  • If I go somewhere and the bathroom isn't clean, I won't return. Especially restaurants. I don't like public bathrooms as it is, so I avoid them if possible. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at February 17, 2017 2:51 PM MST

This is a great question for me to read.
My first job was working in restaurants and bars.  This manifested (happily) into a career managing  many restaurants and bars.  They ranged from 0 to 5 stars.
While interviewing people to come work WITH me, I gave them this thought:
You don't work for me.  You work for the customer.  I know there are certain values the critics claim this establishment to be... Good or Bad, it is really about how we project it to be.   If you would like to work here, you need to want to come to work every day.  You need to want to drink and eat here as a customer.  Clean bathrooms are a key to this.  Everyone who drinks and eats, inevitably, within that a hour and a half, will want to go to the bathroom.  Let's impress them with how much we care about them, our establishment and our personal hygiene.
If they couldn't cut it. They were out.
Every station had side work.  Everyone's station had checking the bathroom through out their shifts.  Before any of them could leave, even after their monies were counted, I walked through the bathrooms.

I agree.  Bathrooms are a reflection of the establishment and staff.

I would go back if the bathrooms were dirty. In the past, I have brought it to the manager's attention.   In conclusion, I made sure myself and my staff had a grasp on the bathroom situation.  Both of them.  Sometimes things do get out of control and things get messy, but not often if you have good management.
