What is the oldest candy treat you remember enjoying as a child?

A recent thread made me remember about the Slo-Poke sucker. There was also one with little flavored disks, can't quite remember the name.

    Hi JB.

LOL!  You just jogged loose a very old memory from the webbing in my brain.

My earliest memory about candy was more about the circumstances than the candy itself.  I remember going to the local variety store with all the neighborhood kids to buy Hershey bars & Bazooka bubble gum (I loved the Bazooka Joe comics).  My friend's Uncle owned and ran the store.  He used to regularly cheat little kids out of their change thinking they didn't know how to count and if they did, they wouldn't have the nerve to tell an adult he was wrong.  Until he tried pulling that crap on me.

    stole a candy bar
    at the store.
         Got caught
    strange...can't remember
    the candy bar
    wait, Milky Way it was.
It took me bit to remember back that far. haha.
Dad gave me Ten swats on the palm of my hands
with a razor strap for that.
    True confessions

  • Wow, I'm starting to remember something very similar. Yes, it had something to do with candy and a crime. :)

  • I remember being very small running up and down a snow covered sidewalk in The Bronx.
I remember I had in my mouth a certain kind of pink candy, gum maybe, shaped like a tiny donut.
If you held it just right and blew thru the hole it would whistle.

The first candy I remember is the pink and white peppermints the old man next door carried in his pockets. I was 3 or younger at the time.

The oldest candies I was a fan of were Necco Wafers. If I'm not mistaken that might be the discs you're thinking of.

  • Great call, yes indeed those were the ones. I remember not liking only one of the colors, all others were great! Thanks :)

It was probably the licorice flavored one.

  • The flavored disks were probably Neco Wafers.  As kid I liked the wax bottles with tasty liquid in them.  Also Peeps and root beer barrels.

I'll try to post an image, too. If it's not there, I obviously failed.
    :)

But my answer is Cherry Mash candy.

Available in 4 flavors which are banana, strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. I believe the same people made kits.
