Maybe people keep their front door locked so that they don't harm people outside the front door?

Methink it also perhaps linked to the reason why animals in zoos are kept in cages. It is to keep them safe.

Your image in your question reminds me of an image on a house in my neighborhood. It's on a window next to the front door.
It has a big hand holding a gun, with the gun pointing outward right in your face and the text is "We don't call 911."

I'll make sure to run to their house and remind them not to call 911 when one of them is having a heart attack. I'll remind them to use their gun to stop the heart attack.

This evening I'm just not in the mood for such "in-my-face" warnings that they feel is necessary.

WelbyQuentin, I came across this picture and was fascinated, I had to know how Answer Muggers perceived it;))
Thanks for sharing your experience, you have such a neighbor GASP....!

It caught my attention in a good way. For what it's worth, the image's message is loud and clear and the  image to go along with it is good.
What I find interesting is that your question's image already assumes someone has trespassed.
The image on my neighbor's house is a clear threat, to my way of thinking (at this moment, at least). No one has banged down their door.

Well. They are kind enough to give a warning, before they give you an excuse to shoot.

But is calling 911 really optional? If someone gets shot you should call the police right then.

    Yeah, you're right, JakobA.
    :)
Yes, I'd think there are a lot of situations, including someone being shot, that would require a 911 call. (I just chose to go to the irrational extreme with my words because of my mood at the time.)

    Definitely.
    :)
It hit the right chord I needed at this moment.

I don't know why I let that sticker get to me. But it was my choice to let it get to me. I now just sort of laugh about the house and sticker, though.
(I explained it a bit more under ALF's answer, too.)
    :)

    Thanks, again.

Yes, I did too, we would carefully walk on the pavements besides the road and shy away from the compound walls of independent houses...these houses were like forts....walled and appeared menacing!

I remember the first time I saw the sticker I talked about. I was on a leisurely walk in my admittedly-what-I'd-call pleasant neighborhood. I remember thinking, "Really? Hey, I respect your right to your guns but do you really need to be so in-your-face about it? Well, since you took the trouble to place the sticker, I guess you do feel the need to go the in-your-face route. Nice way to turn this neighbor away from you. I'll just stay away as you wish." I'd be nervous to just knock on the door, if ever a need arose.

    Shame on me.

But I admit that was my initial response. Now I just sort of laugh.
    :)

  • We don't need no damn gun. Anybody tries to get in has to face our dog. That door is kept locked so that they can't sue us for damages after she tears them to shreds.
