If the border wall extends about 2000 miles -how many cubic miles of concrete will that require to build?

Assuming concrete will be the material used.

    Well I was thinking maybe we could just do some extrapolating from the Great Wall of China, here...

    ...which measures 4,163 miles in length, crossing Eastern to Western China.  The Internet gives the average height as 10 meters, the average width  5 meters, made of 393 million cubic yards of earth, stone, wood, brick and granite.

    So roughly half of 393 million...then converting 196,500,000 cubic yards into cubic miles...according to Kyle's Converter, that works out roughly 0.036 cubic miles.

    (The Great Wall was actually begun in 770 BC, and then they worked on it up until 1878...some 2600 years.)

  • That's a remarkable answer, Virginia. I wondered about this a few weeks ago and although I didn't try to calculate the amount of material needed I was fascinated to see the length.

    On the positive side it would not only create jobs for all Americans but it would also oblige Mr Trump to put out the welcome mat for illegal immigrants whose kabiyr  would be needed to complete such a task., 

    Of course, even if Trump somehow completes his term of office the wall would not be completed within four yeas and no sane president would continue with it, so we'd have a wall that goes a hundred miles or so, ends nowhere, and whose prime purpose will be to baffle archaeologists of the next millennium.
