If you've been fighting fighting fighting and losing losing losing, at what point do you give up and admit defeat? Why?

  • Hi RosieG,

    For me, maybe not so much to admit defeat, as just to stop fighting and explore what it might mean to simply let the difficult situation happen...

    * * *
    Thinking now of 2015 when I got evicted, I had been struggling to get the landlords to honour their promises about rent increases and other prevarications.

    Finally I just decided to let it all go, and make them evict me; so I went to the court hearing but did not fight it, just said, "I have nothing to add."

    It meant I ended up homeless for ten months, but those were unusual, fruitful, remarkable times. Wouldn't necessarily want to do it again, but would not have missed it, either.

    Wow! This is a very heavy response to a question that was very lightweight and off-the-cuff! I'm so glad you survived and are here today to tell me about it Virginia L. I truly am. Thank you for your heartfelt and thoughtful reply and thanks for stopping by. Happy Thursday! :)

    The old question---Is this the hill you want to die on?"....

    Fortunately, this is only a metaphor; because there have been hills I thought worth dying over (and did, but it served a purpose) and some I did not.

    I'm flexible, but there are points past which I will not go....If you do, it is a fight to the death.

    Rosie, I don't like to fight, so I won't beat a dead horse or cast my pearls before swine.
    I don't have to win every fight or have to have the last word.
    You gotta know when to hold um, and know when to fold um.
