    Be serious. They didn't know how to teach arithmetic, even before the "new math" fiasco. Now they teach guessing. And they don't know how to teach that either.

    If you own your house and the mortgage is paid off, go to the county recorder and ask to inspect your title. There will be some codes - ask what they mean. One of them will be "residential". Tell them that's a mistake, it should be "private property". Suddenly, property tax no longer applies. You probably would volunteer to pay the taxes for police and fire protection, but not property tax.   • It's a problem everywhere. Some of our schools/teachers are great; some are not. Same in any job I guess.
