No - it's not an American thing to do.. or it shouldn't be.. it's not fair, it's nor reasonable - it doesn't set a good example to the rest of the world. It smacks of deceit and coercion - of trying to doctor the message, aka manipulate the message.. Now surely that's not a good thing for the people... smacks of dictatorship where people aren't given all the info so they can make informed decisions
It is what dictators do. Control the news. It gets worse each day. It will continue to get worse. And his taking millions people along with him willingly. Woe is us! :( Thank you for your reply DdbTD! :)

"The actual information is "According to The New York Times: “Fox’s television news competitors refused to go along with a Treasury Department effort on Thursday [October 22, 2009] to exclude Fox from a round of interviews with the executive-pay czar Kenneth R. Feinberg that was to be conducted with a ‘pool’ camera crew…”. Fox News Channel’s James Rosen reported this backlash forced the Obama administration to reconsider its position on the matter: “The Washington bureau chiefs of the five TV news network consulted and decided that none of them would interview Feinberg unless Fox was included, and the administration relented…,” reported Rosen. Ultimately, after other media representatives objected, Fox News Channel was allowed to participate in the interviews." In other words it was about an interview with a relatively minor individual in the administration, the W-H wanted to exclude Fox, the rest of the media protested, so the W-H let them in. That's a FAR cry from excluding several major news outlets from an official W-H briefing by the POTUS's press secretary. On top of that if you read the NYT article that Judicial Watch uses as it's source you would see that they kept normal access by Fox's regular news reporters to Presidential stuff throughout the time."
