I'm trying to come up with an acronym. I have 'Effing Grammer' so far.

  • Never pondered grammar.  I just learned the basics and then let regional speak take care of the rest.
I guess pondering in my head implies deep and abstract thought about something.   Grammar was never that interesting to me.  Like pondering how to make the bed or washing the dishes.

  • I'm a perpetual ponderer, a ponder-wanderer. But I agree - pondering grammar is 'ponder lite'. One just does it, no?

  • Yeah,  I just never got into asking the  whys and hows when it came to grammar.

Maybe that's not entirely true,  I did get into reading and watching documentaries about proto-languages at one point.

  • It wasn't something I enjoyed at school and I seem to have picked it up by osmosis.

In Oz, schools have been lax in teaching written English since at least the late 1960s (when my kids started school). So many teachers have told classes, "It doesn't matter if you get it right as long as you get your ideas down on paper." Spelling and grammar are left uncorrected. I doubt if the various education departments would be willing to claim that is official policy but unofficially it is that way English is taught.
