What's the last thing you watched only because you didn't have the remote control handy?

The other day I knew the moment I plopped onto the couch that I was going to sit there for a while.
I had just finished working on the stupid yard, I had a drink in my hand, and I wasn't going nowhere.
After about ten minutes of mindless watching, I realized Revenge of the Nerds was on.
I looked around for the remote, cursed a little a lot for a little, then said to myself,
Whatever...so I watched Revenge of the Nerds. . .

. . .all of it. . .

  • No not at all.. it would be like saying American is the same as Canadian, or Mexican.. They are a neighbouring country, with their own culture, history etc.. very proud of it too they are... They just happen, at the moment, to choose to join with us in forming a member country of the British Isles, or Great Britain or just Britain.  But no English is English and Scots is Scots.

  • Relax D, it's a joke between Ms L and I. Im well aware that Mexicans and Canadians and Americans are not the.same thing. The difference is clear, on one hand you have Americans, and on the.other...well...other...

  • I can assure you I am relaxed.. I just answered your question cos I had no idea whether you were genuinely confused.. Being an educator by nature I gave factual information..

I am one of the few people here who can tell the difference between American and Canadian accents :)

Tell me, since we are both givers of info.. why do people always assume when someone gives an answer that they are *upset* or somehow not relaxed? I've been online a long time.. if I were to get het up over every word said I'd be a wreck by now.. Indeed I'd venture to say that internet can rather make one less likely to get upset etc.. There's an article in the Times today.. about the, "Generation Me" or "Generation Narcissist" - they believe that younger gens have less compassion and empathy than previous gens.. one of the ideas postulated, along with self-absorption and more isolation because of Technology, was that young people see, routinely, shocking images and stories online and they become hardened to shocking things. Interesting idea.

  • Yus, of course.. tho I don't actually *study* jokes  as such but the phenomenon whereby making people laugh will often put them at their ease and will convey warmth is a human trait.. Personally, anyone who knows me will say I am always making jokes and quips.. I don't mean the kind, " an ENglishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman went into a pub" but making light of things, banter, teasing, looking on the bright side and *definitely* self-deprecation are all traits that help us reach out and engage with others..

You've mentioned jokes before.. are you a fan of jokes? Do you tell a lot of jokes?  I am very impressed if you do cos I can never remember the punch lines when I tell a joke :P

I keep the remote right next to my TV chair, so I never have that problem. :)  Of course, if you asked me what I watched because there was absolutely nothing interesting on any of the 109 channels of cable TV I have, that might be a different story.

  • How bout the home shopping channel. I got stuck watching one of those the.other day.  It was about a frying pan that didn't stick. It was orange and you can burn cheese in it without it sticking to the pan.
    I ALMOST ordered it!

I can truthfully say that I have NEVER watched HSN unless it was in someone else's house.  I can also state truthfully that I have NEVER watched a cooking show, unless it was in someone else's house.

  • I tell you what tho, Ms S.
As I watched that guy sell that pan, I thought,
    Wow!
This guy has to talk non stop for thirty minutes and still keep entertained and interested. I thought that was pretty good there.

  • You know, I think I might have seen it. Don't ask how - it had nothing at all to do with dubiously streamed cable TV from the US, nothing at all. It started off with a guy saying you could buy it for $700. Then after about 15 mins that had come down to about $100 and by the end it was $75, that was with a Japanese concubine thrown in and some added extras (though none of them were cheese unfortunately).
And even though I live on a different Continent the guy still tempted me none the less, very persuasive about the perils of hot cheese he was.
