Is a tax credit that pays for your health care, the same thing as a subsidy that pay for your health care??

Hello:

Nahhh..  A tax credit means you have to be RICH enough to pay taxes in order to get it..  If you're poor, you get BUPKIS and DIE in the street..

    Hi Excon:

Actually, you're incorrect about that. People with lower incomes can receive refundable credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Additional Child Tax Credit, and American Opportunity Credit. On the ACA exchanges, they can receive the Advance Premioum Tax Credit (APTC), which amounts to a subsidy, or a refundable credit on their tax returns. So your umbrage is misplaced here.

Good info, but excon said "tax credit", not "refundable tax credit". As you pointed out, there's a difference.

But a refundable tax credit is still a tax credit, so there is no difference. By the same token, it's not clear what Excon is pissed about.

    Hello again, Stu:

Well, I'm STARTING to get pissed off..  Here's what Jason Chaffetz says to poor people about your Republican healthcare plan.

Hello poor people..  Make BETTER choices...  Buy an iPhone, or buy health insurance... If you DON'T make better choices, and you're DYING on the street, expect NO HELP from us..

    Yeah...  That SUCKS..

Why is it MY Republican plan? Just because I pointed out your misconceptions? In any case, some Republican congressmen - Dan Donovan for one - have said they won't support repeal if it means people would lose coverage.

As for Jason Chaffetz, you should tell him, perhaps by letter or email, instead of blowing hard at the rest of us who have nothing to do with him. Don't blame me for what somebody else says.

It doesn't and neither does Obamacare currently. SS and SSD recipients get Medicare. They got it long before OC.
Also not all who receive SS are tax free.  This post was edited by my2cents at March 6, 2017 12:56 PM MST

But with many of the proposed cuts to Medicare and SS...this becomes an issue for this marginalized population.

OC cut Medicare it is still here.
AS President Trump has said more than one occasion....he is not cutting SS or Medicare.....so what proposed cut are you talking about? This post was edited by my2cents at March 7, 2017 5:48 AM MST

With a proposed $50B+ increase in military spending and his request for an equivalent reduction in budget cuts elsewhere, why wouldn't he aim for the same population they've milked dry for years.  It's funding was never intended for anything else, and with the drive towards privitization.....you think the elderly and disabled should sleep well?

Yes. Trump is not taking anyone's SS or Medicare.

I wish I could be more confident about that. Do I believe he's enough of a strong man to hold Ryan and Mulvaney at bay....no, no I don't.

"Trump's team has said they will turn Medicaid into a “block grant,” where funding would be fixed, and wouldn't increase as needed, or, in all likelihood, enough to keep up with medical inflation..."

It'll never happen. Members of the House are always mindful foremost of their constituents, and none, Republican or Democrat, will support any bill that takes government benefits away from them. You can bet on it.

They are talking about a refundable tax credit...there is a difference. Also They are talking about having individual health care savings account that the refund would go to.

In addition to all of the above, those whose income is low enough qualify for minimum essential coverage, which basically is Medicaid and it's free.
