The two "presumptive" nominees for President speak English. Neither one is bilingual to my knowledge. Wouldn't it make sense for the VEEP to be bilingual? Why?

Some Americans ARROGANTLY want Americans to speak English only. Because they are unable to learn another language themselves they don't want another language spoken in "their" country. Well it  isn't "their" country only. It belongs to those who are bi-lingual and tri-lingual and multi-lingual as well. Why do their limitations have to limit the politicians who serve them?

  • There are a huge number of people here that choose not to be bilingual. What's wrong with people running for office making the same decision.

It is not arrogant to expect people who live in the US to speak English. It is the common language spoken by our citizens for 200+ yrs. It also makes us a stronger country. I remember my history teacher explaining how it helps us economically and culturally to speak the same language. How great it is that from the center of the country you can go 1000 miles in any direction and still have the same currency, language and basic laws. How it was not the case in Europe you could only go a hundred or so miles before you hit a new country with another language, currency and laws. That is why they formed the EU...they recognized the strength such things offer.

Nothing is wrong with it, Absolutely nothing. People are lazy. Pols reflect the people. Americans are singularly proud of being less aware of what goes on in the world than citizens of other countries. Non-Americans know far more about what goes on in America than we know about what goes on in their countries. There is nothing wrong with ignorance. Nothing wrong at all. However taking pride in it? Being belligerant about it? That is kinda weird . Thank you for your reply Polk and Happy Saturday!  :)

Americans are lazy and arrogant m2c. Citizens of other countries know far more about what goes in our country than we do about what goes on in theirs. They are more knowledgeable about many things. Period.. Many of them are multi-lingual. Americans take pride in being ignorant. They think they are the be all and end all just as they are and they don't want anyone telling them otherwise. To suggest that it would be a good thing to speak another language is reprehensible to some of them! They need no lousy language other than their own.  Well that embarrasses me. Not the ignorance because we all suffer from that but that they take so much pride in it and become very belligerant with anyone who suggests otherwise. Different strokes m2c. Ignorance is a human thing. So is arrogance. Arrogant ignorance however is not my cuppa tea. So shoot  me. Thank you for your reply.

I have yet to see Congress and the whole political circus do anything
That I could jump up and down and shout to the world "YES" this is what the people need and it is good for everyone
