Does all the time folks spend on Twitter/Facebook/YouTube make them feel more connected or more isolated? Why?

Timely question for me and I would be glad to share.

I personally quit Facebook fairly recently.  I saw the ugly side of it which is having no privacy when you need it the most.  Even with people blocked, there is always someone wanting to share what someone is saying or doing.  In the end, I was miserable on it and I did not feel more "connected" to those that I thought were more connected to me.

I told myself for years that it DID make me feel more connected to people since I do have a lot of friends and relatives scattered about.  I enjoyed their latest musings and their photos.  But I was often left feeling that there had to be something more than the click of a "like" button.

Here's the thing...when you leave it, those that really matter will stay in touch with some effort on the part of both parties.  If they don't, then you have your answer on how much they matter.  I am more connected to a much smaller group now.  I do miss the people that haven't shown much interest in staying connected off of Facebook, but that is out of my control.

I may or may not go back at some point.  I really want to see if staying off makes me "happier" in the end.

I appreciate your candor m'dear. I have never been drawn to any of it. I'm basically a loner. I don't go where  a billion folks are. I don't share every single little thing that happens daily nor am I interested in those who do. I have a life. I give a few hours to Answermug daily and then I leave and forget all about it till the next morning. I could not stand being connected 24/7 to an electronic gadget. I couldn't do it. But hundreds of millions or billions of people do. Different strokes. The Donald TWITTERBASHES constantly. He is a lousy example of people who use it religiously daily as he is addicted to doing. I have heard only very bad things about FACEBOOK and the bullies. Some suicides have resulted in that site. I want no part of anything that is remotely involved in such atrocities. Thank you for your reply PeaPod and Happy  Tuesday. My life belongs to me. I'm not beholden to anyone to fill them in on what is going in my life nor do I welcome their doing likewise.  Unless I ask.  Privacy. Something I treasure. :) This post was edited by RosieG at March 7, 2017 1:27 PM MST
