Have you ever eaten Abalone? Isn't a shame that such great food is almost "fished out" around here now?

  • Twice.   It was good but didn't see what's so special about it.

There's a really interesting Vice video about how Abalones are being poached in South Africa to pay for Methaqualone ( Quaaludes/ Mandrax) regents from China.

  • Nice...     Was there  better time to harvest them than others?   Taste wise that is.

  • Not really but there was a short season only. Cooked right? It's delicious!

  • When I had it, it was very good.   The price of it was the kicker really.

I've never eaten abalone.   Your question made me research some prices on same. (Fresh Abalone Steaks (16 Steaks 1LB.-Giovannis Fish Market-$150.00 + $49.95 shipping) They don't sell them locally and I doubt I will ever eat one at those prices.

I'm still trying to find a local store that sell Groupers, to no avail.

  • I've never eaten it, I'd try it, but seeing as I've never really had a taste for seafood, I don't know if I would like it!

Had abalone one time in Marina del Ray. Best seafood I ever et. I thought they went on the endangered list or something.
