"If you don't know what happened behind you them you don't know what's going on around you". As heard on TV. Agree/dis/why?

"If you don't learn lessons from history you are doomed to repeat it" Is that true too? The definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. So they say. YET practicing golf/tennis or anything over and over makes you better at it so the results ARE different. That's what repetitive practice is for. To get better at doing something. Right?
