I did a poetry workshop at JCU in North Queensland in 1988 and our resident poet had written a poem about "My Grandfather's Violin" which had much of the same sentiment you expressed here. It was a beautiful tribute.
Dozy, I still have my eyeglasses from San Francisco days, that would be around 1968 now...they are octagonal and they were oh so very hip and cool Back In The Day...I keep them now as back-up in case the current ones break, as I have coke-bottle vision...
