Today's word: disappointment

It's a part of life ... if you're not getting disappointed at times it's because your only reaching for the same things you've reached for in the past

True, but how do you define what's a disappointment? And even then, even the things we've reached for in the past can become a disappointment, or?

When your reach is shorter than the grasp ... anytime you attempt but fail, anytime your desires aren't meet ... when the traffic light goes red :) .. there are many examples and definitions and for each of us they will carry different importance ... I do believe how disappointment is handled is a sign of emotional maturity ... and yep, like all of us I'm still learning :)

We all are dear. We all are. At least if we stay open minded and searching for knowledge. Maybe it's not meant for us to understand it all. I usually won't use words as meant to be, but at times it feels like the only word suiting. Hey! Maybe I should make a "today's expression" too... Today's expression: meant to be... Hmm.

Schadenfreude ....  I think we're all guilty at times lol

Schadenfreude in which context? Loanwords are such an interesting thing. Do we really get the full essence of the word when taking it into our language, or will it get another meaning in another language...

You're my muse today inspiring me on how to elaborate my conceptualisation of "today's word. Such a joy, and far far away from any disappointment. :-)

Frustration often caused by things out of one's own control. 

Disappointment is having a let down in expectations.

I always find myself being disappointed in people. I often wonder why, is it that I don't make my expectations realistic enough? Or is the other person letting me down?

It's why I try not to expect so much.

I believe you're right, it is about expectations not met. It can be because we have too high expectations, but in some cases they might be based on previous behaviours, and we can be taken by surprise, right? That will be felt like that other person is letting us down. Hmm. But should we lower our standards of expectations simply because of this, even if our expectations are meeting the standards we set for ourselves? It is interesting.

Being hopeful about something and realizing things are not happening the way you had hoped or expected.  

Mmhmmm. Does there always have to be a hope not met to be an disappointment? And, thank you so much for taking part in this question. :-)

Oh, the usual word of the day is "failure", but "disappointment" also applies.

I do agree that sometimes initial disappointment turns out to be a huge blessing!

That too. I had in mind, if we always need to be hopeful first to experience an later disappointment. That is if the hopes weren't met. And by the way, thanks for playing along. :-)

Personally, the only time I get frustrated is when I am disappointed in the outcome of a situation. Maybe it's my age? I don't need to get my way all the time, but it's tiring being let down. 

Ah yes, a disappointment can cause frustrations. And it's not just about age as I believe but very much also about how we approach our lives. :-)
