Discussion»Questions»Human Behavior» "Talents can be acquired and knowledge can be gained". As stated by an Answermugger friend. The subject was CHARACTER. Can that be acquired?
Yes, character can be developed by the general process of maturing and life experience, reading and reflection. We are, I assert, born self centered, not an admirable character trait.
Thank you for your reply whistle and Happy Friday! I think we're born with certain tendencies over which we had no control. I mean we cannot pick and choose the genes/dna. We're stuck with whatever our parents give to us. I think some people are innately mean/selfish/greedy/envious and others are innately honest, kind and caring. Whether the meanies can flip a switch and become kind I am not so sure. I think as you grow older whatever you are intensifies for good or ill. Of course I could be completely wrong! :)
I wholeheartedly believe that people are capable of change. I think that it's difficult and I'd say that most people don't care to put in the effort and persistence it requires.
I think that one's character is a combination of nature and nurture and personal choice. I guess my answer is yes, because of the personal choice aspect. That being said, overcoming nature and nurture is quite a feat.
Thank you for your thoughtful reply SA. I'm not as sure you are that people can change. You may be right of course. I think you are more optimistic than I am about that! Happy Friday m'dear! :)
